9 reviewsRafting in the Ganga River is one of the incredible adventure sports in Rishikesh, getting much attention from travellers visiting Rishikesh. There are mainly three starting points for Rafting finish at N.I.M. Beach/Laxman Jhulabeach point in Laxman Jhula near Tapovan, a small town of Rishikesh city. These starting points are Marin Drive, Shivpuri and Brahampuri. Marin Drive is very famous among adults because it has the maximum length for surfing. Good rapids of grades 4 + or 5th sometimes look dangerous, but at all, people come here to enjoy and learn the challenges faced in the rafting adventure trip. Shivpuri point is also interesting for those who want to enjoy moderate level rafting trips. The point Brahampuri is suitable is typically for children aged 12+ years or for those participating for the first time.
Marine Drive is located 24 kilometres from N.I.M. Beach/Laxman Jhula. This is ideal for those who wish to spend a longer time rafting, and it is extensive enough for beach camping along the Ganga, in addition to its adventure-sport strength. The distance from Marine Drive Rafting Point to N.I.M. Beach/Laxman Jhula varies from 24 to 26 Kms. This base point is suitable for advanced level rafters seeking adventures, and the stretch is quite tricky from Brahmpuri or Shivpuri Rafting point. Marine Drive to N.I.M. Beach/Laxman Jhula River rafting attracts thousands of tourists every year due to the high level of rapids that looks very dangerous but exciting to hit. The stretch takes around 4.5 hours to finish this with 24kms distance with most risky rapids some of them are 1- Three Blind mice: having a big rapid that can turn the raft, 2- Crossfire: rapid here take raft inside the water, 3- Return to Sender: rapid having the ability to take raft in its round of water, 4- Roller Coaster, 5- Golf Course, 5- Club House, 6- Initiation, 7- Double Treble etc. Throughout this rafting trip, one can even attempt Body surfing and Cliff Jumping, and then the trip can end at N.I.M. Beach/Laxman Jhula. Due to powerful waves and more severe difficulty in the passage, the path needs little manoeuvring from professional guides.
The enthusiasts can try other activities instead of Rafting like Cliff Jumping or Body Surfing in this stretch, depending on their physical strength and capability. The underlying point here is that rafting needs the physical stamina and tolerance ability of the adventurers. Marine Drive rafting point is generally meant for adventurers or physically fit people and requires profound guidance, attention, and direction from experts or professional guides. The cost of rafting from Marine Drive is higher than the Brahmpuri and Shivpuri Rafting points. Families or children should avoid river rafting at this point due to high waves and difficult passage. Adventurers gear themselves up to enjoy a date with River Ganga and its exciting rapids.

Rivers and the individual rapids are rated on a scale of difficulty from class I to class VI. Class I – Easy. Moving water with no significant waves or obstacles. Class II – Straightforward rapids with wide, clear channels. Rapids are regular and occasional manoeuvring may be required. Class III – Irregular waves and narrow channels. Manoeuvring is often required. Class IV – Intense, powerful rapids requiring precise boat handling in turbulent water. Quick and complex manoeuvring is often needed. Class V – Extremely long, obstructed, and very violent rapids. Drops are large with unavoidable waves, making manoeuvring very difficult. Moves must be precise. The rivers we run in difficulty depending on river flow. In general, spring snowmelt brings higher water and higher levels of difficulty. As water levels recede throughout the summer, our rivers generally become slightly less complicated.
